A date

Katelyn Schlefke

Walking past

Two girls holding hands,

I think

"They're on a date

They're walking

Back in these woods

And they're here on a date"

A thrill goes through me

At the thought

Because I catch them looking at us, And I look at you

Walking here with me

Back in these woods

Laughing

Talking carefree

And I wonder

If they think we're on a date

I wish we were on a date.

And I bask in the thought

Of "you and me" existing

Even for a moment,

Even just in the minds

Of two happy strangers.
